First, cover your motion sensor with a hat or towel, or turn it around to the wall (this will prevent accidental activation). Make sure all the windows and doors (with sensors) are closed. Plug the console in, and set the slider switch to "Install." Push the "Arm" or "Arm away" button on each remote control--the console will chime as each remote is registered. Then, go to each sensor in turn, starting with whichever sensor you want to be Zone 1.

If it is a door/window sensor, you can either press its Test button (inside the cover) or open and close the door or window. You will again hear the console chime. It should chime only once for each sensor. When you get to the motion sensor, press the Test button on the back. Make sure it remains covered or turned around to prevent it from registering in multiple zones.

After all sensors/zones and remotes have been installed, set the slider switch to "Run1" and test the system.

Question

How do I setup my security system?

How do I program phone numbers in the console?

Answer

Locating the System

Locating the Security Console

Choose a location for the Security Console which is as central as possible in the house, while providing access to a modular telephone jack and an AC outlet. The console may be placed on a shelf or table, or may be fixed to a wall using the optional mounting bracket and screws.

Locating Door/Window Sensors and Motion Detectors

Plan the location of the Door/Window Sensors and Motion Detectors so that the RF path which runs in a straight line from sensor to console is not obstructed by large metal objects such as a refrigerators or freezers, and passes through as few walls as possible. Door/Window Sensors may be hidden behind drapes for a more discreet installation.

Hardware Installation

Before installing the system, leave the PS561 console unplugged for two minutes without its backup battery installed.

Make sure all the windows and doors (with sensors) are closed. Open the plastic battery cover on each Door/Window Sensor, hold down the TEST button for 2 seconds, then release. Cover any motion sensors that are in the same room as the console, then plug the console and its 9V battery back in; set the console to INSTALL mode. Do NOT touch the TEST button on any of the sensors while the console is in Install mode. Instead, first install the motion sensors by removing the cover, if any, then walking in front of each sensor; the LED will flash and the console will ding. After installing each sensor, go back to the console and confirm that just ONE more zone has lit up. Once you have installed all the motion sensors, install the rest of the sensors by opening the door/window each one guards. Again, go back to the console and confirm that just ONE more zone has lit up for each sensor; hold BYPASS to view zones 9 through 16.

After installing all the sensors, install the remotes. To do this, tap ARM or ARM HOME on each remote in turn to install- the console will ding but no zones will light. Next, move the slide switch back to RUN1 or RUN2 and test the system by arming and disarming from a keychain remote.

Voice Dialer Set-up

Here are some quick instructions for setting up the telephone dialer.

  1. Set the console's INSTALL/RUN switch to INSTALL.
  2. Press the PROG button.
  3. Enter the first phone number that you want the console to call in the event of a problem, e.g. 234-5678.
  4. Press the MEM button.
  5. Press 1 to store the phone number in memory location 1.
  6. Press PROG and enter a second number, followed by pressing MEM and then 2 to store the number in memory location 2.
  7. Press PROG and enter a third number, followed by pressing MEM and then 3 to store the number in memory location 3.
  8. Press PROG and enter a fourth number, followed by pressing MEM and then 4 to store the number in memory location 4.
  9. To change a number, repeat steps 1 through 4, then 5, 6, 7, OR 8.
  10. When you are finished programming the numbers, move the console's INSTALL/RUN switch back to RUN.

If you want to store only one number, 'fill up' the memory locations with that number. Ex:

234-5678 memory location 1.
234-5678 memory location 2.
234-5678 memory location 3.
234-5678 memory location 4.

To store a voice message:

  1. Plug an earphone into the jack on the side of the console.
  2. Set the console's INSTALL/RUN switch to INSTALL.
  3. Press the RECORD button. The RECORD light turns on.
  4. Speak clearly into the microphone on the front of the console. You can record up to 15 seconds of speech. Ex: "This is Mrs Smith. There's a strange noise in my house. Press 0 to listen." After 15 seconds the RECORD light turns off.
  5. Set the console's INSTALL/RUN switch to RUN. The console plays back your message through the earphone so you can hear what it sounds like (it sounds better over the phone).
  6. If you want to hear the message again, set the console's INSTALL/RUN switch to INSTALL and then back to RUN.

Repeat all the steps if you want to change the message.
