Question

How do I program my Slimfire remote?

Answer

Newer Remotes (shipped after September 2006 or later)

Please note that entering Program Mode resets the unit to its default of A1.

Changing the House Code

  • Press and hold the first (top) ON and OFF buttons at the same time for 2-3 seconds to enter Program Mode (the LED stays on and the Unit Codes are set to 1 and 2.).
  • Press and release the first (top) ON button the appropriate number of times for the Housecode you want to set. Once for A, twice for B, etc. The LED blinks off for each press.
  • Press the second (bottom) ON or OFF button to return to Normal Mode. The unit will also return to Normal Mode if no keys are pressed for more than 30 seconds.

Changing the Unit Code for the first (top) two buttons

The second pair of buttons are always one number higher than the first pair. For example, if you set the first button to 6, the second button controls 7.)

  • Press and hold the first (top) ON and OFF buttons at the same time for 2-3 seconds to enter Program Mode (the LED stays on and the House Code is set to A).
  • Press and release the first (top) OFF button the appropriate number of times for the Unit Code you want to set. Once for 1, twice for 2, etc. The LED blinks off for each press.
  • Press the second (bottom) ON or OFF button to return to Normal Mode. The unit will also return to Normal Mode if no keys are pressed for more than 30 seconds.

Changing the both the House and Unit Code:

  • Press and hold the first (top) ON and OFF buttons at the same time for 2-3 seconds to enter Program Mode (the LED stays on and the remote is now set to A1.).
  • Press and release the first (top) ON button the appropriate number of times for the Housecode you want to set. Once for A, twice for B, etc. The LED blinks off for each press.

Old instructions (pre-2006)

The most important part of programming the Keychain Remote, aside from pressing the correct buttons, is timing. You need only 1 to 2 seconds for each step.

To set the House Code, press and hold the top "On" button. When you first press it, the light (LED) on the remote will flash briefly and go out. Continue to hold the button until the light comes on again. It will flash once again (if you have not already changed this setting), then go out. Now press and release the On button to set the House code. One press will set it to "A," two to "B," three to "C," and so on. After each press the light will flash--wait until it goes out to press the button again. On the last press, hold the button and do not release it. The LED will flash once, go out, and then flash the number of times equal to the number of times you pressed the On button. The House Code is now set.

Repeat this process using the top "Off" button to set the Unit code. In this case, the number of button presses you use will be equal to the unit number you want to assign as the starting remote unit.

When you change the code on your remote, you need to make sure you go through the steps with haste. When you press and hold a button to change the code the light will flash, go out for a few seconds, and then blink its current state. Two seconds later, it blinks again; this second blink tells you that the remote has exited programming mode. When you see the first blink you need to release the button and start programming before the second blink. If you see the second blink it is too late. Make sure you are holding down the final press for the change you want to make until you see the remote acknowledge it by blinking out the new setting.
