Q: Why ain't it workin' right?
1) Do you see a clear camera picture on your TV?
- YES: Go to step 2.
- NO: Go to step 3.
2) Can you switch cameras with your remote control?
- YES: Go to step 4.
- NO: Go to step 5.
3) If you push STOP or PLAY on your VCR, do you see a change on your TV?
- YES: Go to step 14.
- NO: Your TV is not set up to view your VCR. Please consult your TV's manual.
4) When you wave your hand in front of a motion sensor, does the system switch to the camera near that sensor?
- YES: Go to step 6.
- NO: Go to step 7.
5) Is your TM751 plugged directly into the wall?
- YES: Here are two different knowledge base articles with two different approaches to your camera switching problem. Try them in the order shown: first look at Troubleshooting Camera Switching, then Alternate Camera Switching Configuration.
- NO: Please plug the TM751 directly into a wall outlet, not into a surge suppressor. Go to step 2.
6) When the motion sensor goes off, does the VCR start recording?
- YES: Go to step 8.
- NO: Go to step 9.
- YES: Go to step 21.
- NO: Go to step 13.
8) If you tap STOP on the VCR Commander, does the VCR stop recording?
- YES: Go to step 10.
- NO: OK, you have almost everything working correctly. The VCR Commander has successfully learned the RECORD command from your remote, but STOP was not recorded correctly. Please repeat the infrared programming instructions shown here.
9) When the motion sensor went off, did the VCR Commander beep eight times?
- YES: Please read Using Home and Away Modes.
- NO: Go to step 11.
10) If you rewind that tape and play it back, do you see video from your camera?
- YES: It looks to me like your system is working correctly. What else do you need it to do?
- NO: Go to step 12.
- YES: OK, you have almost everything working correctly. The VCR Commander has successfully learned the commands from your motion sensors, but it did not learn the VCR remote control commands successfully. Please repeat the infrared programming instructions
- NO: (bad RF programming or signal never reached cmdr)
12) For this system to work correctly, you will need to attach the VR36A to your VCR, then hook the VCR up to the TV. Is the VR36A connected directly to the TV?
- YES: You will need to connect the VR36A to the VCR and set up your VCR and TV so that you see the VR36A on the screen. You will need to set the TV to view the VCR, then set the VCR to display its appropriate video input channel. Please consult the manuals for your TV and VCR.
- NO: Please email a detailed description of your TV/VCR setup- what is connected to what, and what channel each device is set to- to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- YES: Please read Motion Sensor Code Change.
- NO: If you can hold the CR12A remote next to the sensor and it can switch cameras, but your sensor cannot, then your sensor may have an issue.
14) What is the model number of the power supply you are using with your video reciever?
- D9300: Go to step 15.
- ANYTHING ELSE: Please ensure that you are using the D9300 power supply (9V x 300ma) with the VR36A, not the D9100 that came with your UX23A.
15) Is the red light on the front of the VR36A lit? If not, does it light when you flip the power switch next to the antenna hinge?
- YES: Go to step 16.
- NO then YES: Do you now get a picture? If not, go to step 16.
- NO then NO: Your VR36A may have an issue.
16) Unplug the VR36A from the VCR, then connect a DVD player or something else with a TV out to the exact same video input. Do you see a DVD player screen on the TV?
- YES: Go to step 17.
- NO: Your VCR is not set up to view its video input channel. Please consult your VCR's manual.
17) Reconnect the VR36A to the VCR. Unplug your camera's power supply from the wall, then plug it back in. Do you see a picture on your TV?
- YES: Go to step 19.
- NO: Go to step 18.
18) Try moving the A-D switch on the Video Receiver to each of its four possible positions. Do you see a camera picture on any of the transmission channels?
- YES: Plug your other cameras back in and go to step 2.
- NO: Go to step 21.
19) Either your camera was turned off from a remote control or motion sensor, or something in your house is generating a fake X10 signal. Is your TM751 plugged in?
- YES: Go to step 2.
- NO: Please read this article about false X10 signals.
20) If this is your first time at Step 20, unplug the current camera, plug in another camera, and go back to step 17. If you get back to Step 20 again, your receiver may have an issue. If you get a picture the second time through steps 17 and 18, then the first camera you tried may have an issue.
- YES: Your sensor was probably in Nighttime Only mode. Reset it to its correct house and unit code then go to step 4.
- NO: Your sensor may have an issue.
