Question

Does the UM506 simply connect two non-connected wires when activated, or does it add additional current to the line?

Answer

The UM506 contains a relay with isolated contacts. It does NOT apply any voltage to the contacts. It just switches whatever you connect to its screw terminals.

The contacts are rated to switch low voltages up to a maximum of thirty volts. Connecting voltages higher than that to the UM506's screw terminals can cause a safety hazard since the screw terminals are exposed.
