Question

How can I change the channel that my wireless router transmits on?

Answer

Here are solutions for five popular routers from different companies:

3com

Belkin

D-Link

Linksys WRT54G

Go to http://192.168.1.1 and log in; the default username and password are admin. In the web-based configuration page, go to the Wireless tab and look for two things: Wireless Network Mode and Wireless Channel. You can select G-Only if you do not have any older devices that communicate using the old 802.11b (Wireless-B) setting. This is best for avoiding interference. Otherwise, leave Wireless Network Mode on Mixed and change Wireless Channel to 1 (interferes with X10 channel A) or 12 (interferes with X10 channel D). Once this is done hit Save Settings.
